Jargon Buster
One Way Rental: To rent a car in one location and deliver
it to another location. This service is not available
online currently. However you can contact us and we
will get back to you. We aim to respond to all email
enquiries within one working day.
Airport Surcharge: At most airports (and in some other
premium locations like ferry ports) the car Rental companies
have to pay the airport an additional fee to use the
airport facilities. In many locations this fee is passed
on to the customer and must be paid in local currency.
If you have any questions our reservations staff will
be happy to advise you.
Additional Drivers: When there is more than one driver
named on the Rental agreement, the second (or subsequent)
driver is referred to as the additional driver. Additional
drivers can be added at the extras page for an additional
fee payable locally, as long as they are not 'underage'
and hold a full valid driving licence.
Pick-Up Time: The time when you collect your vehicle.
Drop-Off Time: The time when you return your vehicle.
Please note that the car Rental companies charge for periods
of 24 hours. If you return your vehicle later than 30
minutes after your scheduled drop off time, you may
be charged for an extra day at the rate payable at the
depot (not our negotiated rates).
Rental Day: Each 24 Hr period, which starts at the time
you are due to collect your vehicle.
City Code: All cities and airports are given a three
letter city code. Some of these are abbreviations and
obvious, i.e. LON is the three letter code for London.
Others are not so clear, i.e. YTO is the three letter
code for Toronto. You do not need to use these codes
but it can save you time if you do. Some of the most
common codes are as follows:
IDP: (International Drivers Permit) One of these may
be required in addition to your national drivers licence
when driving abroad. More information on these is available
at http://www.theaa.co.uk/motoringandtravel/Idp/index.asp
Excess: The part of each claim is the responsibility
of the insured. If there is a figure listed on the site
for an excess amount then this is the maximum liability
you will be held accountable for in cases of loss or
severe damage caused in an accident (as long as it does
not involve alcohol consumption which invalidates all
insurance policies).
Rental Duration: The total number of Rental days.
SLI/ELP: Supplementary Liability Insurance/Extended
Liability Protection - An extended insurance cover needed
within the US and sometimes in Canada to protect the
Insured from an increased Third Party claim. This cover
is sometimes included in the Rental amount and increases
cover from the local minimum to a maximum of $1,000,000
(if you are unsure, please check by contacting us).
Third Party: A person or persons other than the Insured.
Third Party Insurance: Protects the driver against
a claim made by another person in the event of any damage
or injury. Usually included within the Rental fee unless
otherwise stated.
Loss Damage Waiver: (LDW) / Collision Damage Waiver
(CDW) Included within the Rental fee unless otherwise
stated and protects the Driver from any claim (minus
the excess amount) in the event of any damage occurring
to the Rental vehicle.
PAI: (Personal Accident Insurance) Usually covered
by travel insurance so check your personal travel policy
before selecting this extra. If you require some travel
insurance please visit http://www.onlinetravelcover.com
